LATEST ALBUM
" The group's interplay is measured and cohesive, giving the album a sense of unity and purpose. Kolosii's saxophone lines are confident and expressive, and the rhythm section provides a solid foundation throughout.Rather than relying on grand gestures, Kolosii's musicianship comes through in his subtle phrasing and attentive delivery. The album balances complexity with accessibility, offering listeners a clear sense of direction without overwhelming them."Crossed Sounds" is a well-crafted addition to the contemporary jazz scene—an album that highlights Kolosii's skill as both a player and a bandleader. About
Saxophonist and composer Oleksandr Kolosii, is a rising force on the European jazz scene, was barn in 1990 into a family of professional musicians, Oleksandr Kolosii began classical piano at age six before turning to the saxophone at twelve. His early training in classical piano and saxophone is evident in his precise technique and careful attention to detail. Deeply influenced by legends such as Charlie Parker, Dexter Gordon, Sonny Stitt, and John Coltrane, his playing is distinctive, shaped by years of study with respected mentors in Denmark and private tuition from leading jazz figures reflects reverence for jazz history while embracing a globally diverse future. Oleksandr's warm sound honours the great hard bop masters, but with a contemporary edge that reflects his classical training.
After moving to Denmark in 2017, Kolosii immersed himself in the thriving Scandinavian jazz scene. His studies at The Danish National Academy of Music put him under the mentorship of artists like Karl Martin Almqvist, Anders Mogensen, and later Seamus Blake. Further mentorship came through private lessons with top-tier saxophonists including Ben Wendel, Joe Lovano, Melissa Aldana, and George Garzone.
His resume includes performances at prestigious festivals such as Blue Note Jazz Competition (Poland), Elbjazz (Germany), Vinterjazz, Copenhagen Jazz Festival, and Aarhus Jazz Festival in Denmark. Among that he maintains an active touring schedule, performing across Europe's premier jazz venues.
Throughout his career, Oleksandr has collaborated with a wide range of world class musicians, including: Alex Sipiagin, Donald Edwards, Doug Weiss, Mett Penman, JK Kim, Anders Mogensen, Anders Christiansen (AC), Lorenz Kellhuber, Carl Winther, among others.
Oleksandr Kolosii's distinct musical voice is the result of years of dedicated refinement, blending bebop traditions with modern world jazz textures - a sound bath rooted and forward-looking.
